Modest Mouse

Last night my roommate Jeremiah, Teddy B. and I made a venture to the second of the two sold out Modest Mouse concerts. We showed up at First Ave. promptly at 8 when the doors opened for Ted need to find a ticket. Poor bastard was out there for about an hour looking for a ticket in 10 degree weather. One word of advise when attending a concert; always try to inquire on how many acts are playing and when. We figured with one opening band, Mason Jennings, the main act would be on by 10:00. Instead we got 3 acts last night with Mount Egypt opening at 9, Mason Jennings at 10, and Modest Mouse appearing at 11:15. Five and a half hours of standing around! I'll tell you my back was hurting by the end of the night.

Mount Eygpt - Painfully slow... thank God they only played for half an hour.

Mason Jennings - Sweet voice playing in what Teddy B. called "Trans-folk". This made for a boring and nerve-racking performance. It was so boring I had to go get an ice cream cone and watch it melt. Nerve-racking because the three of us couldn't wait until he was done with his show. Though, he was glad to be back in his hometown and the crowd gave him a very warm welcome. His transic type songs made the women in the audience groove, but the crowd wanted something more aggressive to prep for the upcoming act.

Modest Mouse - I had trouble agreeing with the review from The Star Tribune concerning the previous night show. Maybe Isaac Brock read the review because he was off the hook with enthusiasm and aggression. Two songs into the set with the crowd going wild, fans had thrown a few items towards stage, along with a glass full of ice. After playing, Brock threatened to basically break the face of whoever threw the ice. While threatening to kill the SOB, he invited the audience to help in his crusade. Fourteen songs I counted, same as in November when I saw them. Teddy B. was lined into some mics, which makes me even more excited to posses a recording of the memorable night.
